The religious use of peyote led to the historic persecution of the Huichol people in Mexico and the Native American Church of North America in the United States. In the 1980s, that persecution morphed into a threat to the religious liberty of all Americans. Reuben Snake, a prominent "Roadman" in the Native American Church gave this powerful speech on Yom Kippur, 1990 at the foot of the U.S. Capitol.
