Applicable Form of Executive Clemency: Commutation of Sentence

The New Jersey Constitution vests full clemency authority in the Governor in all criminal and penal cases, with certain exceptions and under the rules and regulations prescribed by law. (New Jersey Constitution, Article V, Section 2)

All questions on the Petition for Executive Clemency must be answered in full. Use a typewriter or print in ink. If space is insufficient for any answer, attach additional pages and number your answer accordingly. The petitioner is encouraged to attach documents that can substantiate the information contained on the petition (i.e. copies of diplomas, military discharge, marriage certificate, etc.). The completed form must be forwarded to the Administrator of the correctional facility where you are confined.

Upon receipt of the completed petition form and supporting documents, the State Parole Board will begin the investigation as required by the Governor.

The Governor will make his decision to grant or deny clemency after reviewing the investigation's findings.
