Religious conservative and political activist Pat Robertson told his
national television audience on Friday that God revealed to him that
President George W. Bush will win reelection in 2004 in a "blowout."
Robertson, who ran unsuccessfully for the Republican nomination for
president in 1988 against former President George H. W. Bush, told viewers
of the nationally-syndicated "700 Club" that there are "things
that I believe the Lord was showing me as I spent several days in prayer
at the end of 2003."
The long-time televangelist told his Christian Broadcasting Network
audience that God said Bush will win in a landslide in 2004.
"I think George Bush is going to win in a walk," Robertson
said, explaining that the Lord has been speaking to him a lot recently
about the upcoming presidential election.
He added, "I really believe I'm hearing from the Lord it's going
to be like a blowout election in 2004. It's shaping up that way."
Robertson stated that Bush has found favor with God and that the president
is reaping the benefits as a result of his dedication to and faith in
the Lord.
"The Lord has just blessed [Bush]," Robertson explained.
In fact, Robertson asserted that Bush is virtually unbeatable because
of God's favor on him.
"I mean, [Bush] could make terrible mistakes and come out of it,"
Robertson continued.
Crediting the prayer life of the president and his acknowledgment of
Jesus Christ in public, Robertson said that God will ensure victory
for Bush in 2004.
"It doesn't make any difference what he does, good or bad, God
picks him up because he's a man of prayer and God's blessing him,"
Robertson contended.
In addition to his bold assertion about Bush's chances for reelection,
Robertson said that he believes the nation of China will see "extraordinary
prosperity ... in a way it's never known before."
"God loves China, and he loves the Chinese people," Robertson
remarked. "I believe there's going to be an unbelievable spiritual
revival taking place in China this year."
Not surprisingly, Americans United for the Separation of Church and
State Executive Director Rev. Barry Lynn offered a cynical, liberal
response to Robertson's declaration about Bush.
"I predict that Pat Robertson in 2004 will continue to use his
multimillion broadcasting empire to promote George Bush and other Republican
candidates," Lynn expressed in a press release.
Lynn sarcastically added, "Maybe Pat got a message from Karl Rove
and thought it was from God," alluding to Bush's political strategist
and advisor.
Nevertheless, a recent CNN/USA Today/Gallup Poll reported by Talon
News shows Bush overwhelmingly defeating leading Democrat presidential
candidate Howard Dean 60 percent to 37 percent as well as most of the
other major Democrat candidates for president by at least 16 percent.
That same poll listed Bush's job approval rating currently at 63 percent.
